I am a recovering perfectionist. This piece certain speaks to that. In case I was wondering if that was still true, I nearly didn’t publish this because the title is supposed to be Practice Makes Perfect (Perfect with a strike-through) Better. But I cannot figure out how to do the strike-through in the header! I decided to publish it anyway.
When I wrote this piece, I was coming to grips with the reality that I will likely not be fully heal-ed in this life. We like stories of people who have heal-ed, overcome, or been transform-ed. But the truth is that life doesn’t always work that way. Not all of us overcome all of our obstacles in this life, and that’s ok. I have big ugly scars. And I have some wounds that are and likely will continue to be very tender and sore.
However this piece may speak to you, I hope it encourages you to live in the Better.
Perfect Progress
Perfect Penmanship
Perfect Piano Performances
Perfect Playtime
Perfect Parallel to Jesus
Perfect Little Person
Perfect is hard
it is rigid and cold-hearted
Perfect is unrealistic and inplausable
Why pursue perfection?
To provide a point, a target, and a purpose, they say
But to pursue merely the point and purpose of pure perfection
is a pit of pessimism
Always seeing the slip
the blunder
the mistake
Better Boosts
Better Beautifies
Better Begins
Better Brings
Better Balms and Balances
Better boasts not
Because Better knows
it is soft
undefined
and intimate
Perfection Pushes and Pleads
Better Beckons and Breathes
Better searches out
and calls to me
to try again
to not give up
to hold onto Hope
that I will continue
to get Better
